Congressman Burgess,
Many people have compared the past few years, and months especially, to the Civil War in the sense of division and aversion to compromise between differing sections of the United States and to me, that's an enormously big problem that needs to be fixed. Bipartisanship has done just what George Washington said it would, it has divided us and is on a steadfast path to destroy our nation. Both the Republican and Democratic parties are to blame for the separation of people based not only on large issues but also on petty little discrepancies in beliefs that don't amount to anything in the grand scheme of things. I believe that you have not only our state, but our country's best interest at heart and that you'll do anything you can to ensure that we as Americans work together, regardless of political affiliation or any other differences, and solve these problems that stand as obstacles hindering the further development and success of the greatest country in the world, ours. Now I know that you are a Republican Congressperson, so it's understandable that in Texas it might be more likely for you to push your agenda and ideas forward into motion because of the stark majority of Conservatives within our state, however, it is essential that starting at a state level, the government begins to put aside petty bipartisanship, alongside the citizens and work together with opposing parties in order to make progress. All of this fighting is just wasting time and allowing the economy and social issues of Americans to take turns for the worse even more so than they already have. Unemployment, hunger, ALL issues can be solved if everyone will commit to some sort of compromise with opposing ideas. Obviously I'm not asking you to compromise your morals, standards, beliefs, or anything else, but I'm telling you unequivocally that it is imperative right now for you to step up and make a difference. No more sitting around. You were elected because the people of Texas believe you to be a leader, a man of integrity, please, for the sake of Americans everywhere, even those who you don't agree with politically, make compromise happen. We believe in you whole-heartidly and know you won't let us down. After all, with the direction the country's going in, you can't afford to hold back.
Thank you for your time,
Rachel Burkhart
